Welcome to the third edition of the ACSOS Community Newsletter – your regular update on conference news, community stories, and opportunities to connect and collaborate.

This issue is packed with news: ACSOS 2026 is taking shape, with Early Bird registration closing on July 20 and three new social events letting you experience Romagna’s food, wine, and traditions. We’re also excited to introduce our two keynote speakers, share an update from a long-time community member’s new research center, and celebrate a well-deserved career milestone.

The ACSOS 2026 Community Building Chairs

ACSOS 2026 Early Bird registration ends on July 20!
Register by July 20 to benefit from the discounted Early Bird registration rate. Registration will remain open after this date, but regular rates will apply. We are also happy to announce three additional social events, designed to let participants experience some of the best places, food, and traditions of Romagna:

Wine, Views, and Dinner on Romagna’s Balcony
An evening in Bertinoro, including a visit to the historic town, local wine tasting, and a traditional dinner overlooking the Romagna hills.
ACSOS GP on the Riviera: Racing & Dinner
A go-kart experience in Riccione, with an alternative seaside walk for non-racers, followed by dinner in Rimini.
Along Leonardo’s Canal: Cesenatico and Fish Dinner
A visit to Cesenatico, including the Maritime Museum, the historic canal harbour designed by Leonardo da Vinci, and a fish dinner by the sea.

Transportation from the conference venue, dinner, and return to Cesena are included in all three events.

Places are limited, and each event requires a minimum number of participants to be confirmed. We therefore recommend registering as soon as possible, preferably by August 3, when participation will be assessed.

We are pleased to announce two keynote speakers for ACSOS 2026:
Marco Dorigo (Université Libre de Bruxelles)
Bridging Centralized and Decentralized Control in Robot Swarms through Self-Organizing Hierarchies
Marco Dorigo is a leading figure in swarm intelligence, co-director of IRIDIA, and Fellow of AAAI, ACM, EurAI, and IEEE, recipient of major awards including the IEEE Frank Rosenblatt Award.

Ivona Brandic (TU Wien)
Bridging Classical and Quantum Computing: Lessons, Challenges, and Opportunities
Ivona Brandic is a Full Professor for High Performance Computing Systems at the Institute of Computer Engineering, TU Wien, Vienna, Austria, where she leads the Research Unit for Computational Sustainability.

💰 California State Polytechnic University Pomona Center for Exploration and Space Technologies

The College of Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona has a new Center for Exploration and Space Technologies (EaST), led by its founding director, Dr. Phyllis Nelson, a long-time ACSOS community member. The EaST center was created to provide support for collaborative faculty and student research. The new center supports several existing successful research areas, including cubesats, flight software, and mission operations for small space missions; autonomous vehicles; advanced materials for challenging environments; and digital engineering for digital twins, machine learning engineering applications, and predictive failure mechanism recognition. The center builds on a strong record of success in performing funded and published research projects with such partners as NASA.

🏆 Christian Krupitzer Successfully Completes Tenure Track

We are delighted to share that Christian Krupitzer has successfully completed his tenure-track process. Following his evaluation presentation on November 10, 2025, he was sworn in as a full professor (W3) on July 1, 2026.
Christian first joined the ACSOS community through ICAC and SASO in 2013, during his PhD, and has been an active member ever since. For ACSOS 2026, he is serving as Program Chair.
